Summary

This apprenticeship programme is ideal for someone who prepares food and carries out basic cooking tasks in every section of a kitchen under the supervision of a senior chef and wishes to develop their culinary career.

Is this the right programme?

A Commis Chef apprenticeship is ideal for school leavers, career changers, or anyone looking to get the best start to a chef career. It is the most common starting position in professional kitchens and, in principle, the most junior culinary role.

Duration

This is a Level 2, 12 month programme plus a Gateway (EPA) of 2 months.

How it works

Apprentices receive theory and practical training from an industry expert chef trainer.

Spend 1 day a month in our Umbrella Training Culinary School in London where they will experience expert-led masterclasses in everything from butchery to pasta making.

Embed what they have learnt back into your workplace by experiencing the different sections and collating evidence of their work.

Their demonstration and evidence collecting of their work should take place as part of Off The Jobs Hours

All our culinary apprentices are mentored by one of our top chefs to make sure they are fully prepared for their End-Point Assessment (EPA).

Significant culinary experience already?

Chef de Partie Level 3 apprenticeship would be ideal for any chefs who are already being great Commis Chefs. The Chef de Partie apprenticeship would help them advance their skills and responsibilities to the next level.
