Umbrella Training strengthens leadership with appointment of three Non-Executive Directors
Award-winning hospitality apprenticeship provider, Umbrella Training, has announced the appointment of three new Non-Executive Directors.
As a part of Umbrella Training’s growth strategy, Steve Rockey, Dan Power and Jaine Bolten joined at an exciting time for the business, where enhancing leadership and shaping a longer-term strategy to drive forward social impact is key. Their collective experience brings invaluable insight and strategic direction that will help to deliver Umbrella Training’s mission – to develop talent, champion social mobility and deliver meaningful, lasting impact for apprentices and employers.
Steve Rockey joins Umbrella Training as a Non-Executive Director, bringing a 25-year career dedicated to creating outstanding environments for people to learn, develop and thrive. His career began with the opening of the Millennium Dome, followed by six years with Compass Group, where he built a strong foundation in corporate HR.
He later joined Pizza Express, progressing from Employee Relations Manager to HR Manager over a six-year period, before moving into the fast-growing restaurant brand Byron as it expanded nationwide. Steve played a central role in shaping Byron’s people strategy as the business scaled rapidly across the UK.
His subsequent work has included consultancy roles, leadership at The Big Easy and eight years with The PIG Hotels, where he supported the opening of four hotels and one pub while navigating the challenges of the COVID period. Steve is currently Head of People and Culture Europe at The Zetter Collection, supporting the opening of its new Bloomsbury hotel and future expansion across the UK and Europe.
Dan Power brings more than 20 years of experience in post-compulsory education and currently serves as Chief Commercial Officer for Chichester College Group, one of the UK’s largest college groups.
A strategic and collaborative leader, Dan specialises in organisational growth, commercial development and partnership building. His background spans hospitality, management, and staff development, with a strong focus on aligning business strategies with organisational goals.
Dan is committed to innovation, operational excellence and driving sustainable, inclusive growth within education and training. His passion for strengthening opportunities within hospitality aligns directly with Umbrella Training’s purpose and long term vision.
Finally, Jaine Bolton is the founder of Jaine Bolton Limited, an independent consultancy specialising in strategic advice and practical, results-driven support in skills development and apprenticeships. She is known for her collaborative approach, helping organisations build excellence and maximise the impact of their workforce development.
With extensive connections across the UK and internationally, Jaine brings together experts from diverse fields to design tailored solutions for clients. She is recognised for her creative, pragmatic approach to solving skills challenges and for her willingness to challenge established thinking to deliver highly experienced in bridging the gap between employers, industry bodies, partners and education providers. Her work focuses on building strong, effective partnerships and empowering organisations with the capacity and networks they need to grow long after consultancy engagements end.
With five years as Senior Director at the National Apprenticeship Service, she has in-depth policy expertise and a proven track record of delivering high-quality, high-impact skills solutions.
