The Apprenticeship Clubs are designed to provide support, off job training, learning activities and interactive meetings for our apprentices to help them achieve the apprenticeship.

It will allow you to develop new and interesting skills of which you can efficiently apply in your workplace and develop your own skill set from these experiences.
We pride ourselves in offering only the best, quality activities to our apprentices and will make sure every trip is as entertaining as the last!

So from us at Umbrella, we introduce you to our very own Apprenticeship Clubs.

Clever Clogs Club – For level 5 apprentices
Tidy Angels Club – For Housekeeping Team Members and Supervisors

Cheese Masterclass

Date: September 7, 2017

Time: 10.00am - 1.00pm

Location: Harvey & Brockless, 54 Stewart's Rd, London SW8 4DF

Harvey and Brockless are a producer and distributor of speciality foods, working with artisan food producers across the globe. Every day, they supply to a nationwide network of customers from the smallest farm shops, to restaurants and food manufacturers. We are lucky enough to have been offered a few places on their master class based on the finest cheeses in the industry, for you the apprentices to join us on the 23rd May 2017.

This masterclass will allow the apprentices to gain a better understanding into the world of cheeses as well as learn new and dominant cheeses both known and unknown to the current market. Harvey and Brockless have developed fantastic relationships with their producers: traditional cheesemakers, olive growers, artisan curers and food innovators. As well as the largest collection of British farmhouse cheeses in the UK, their remarkable range includes their very own Mediterranean deli products from Dell’ami, a huge range of British cured meats, as well as their own bespoke sauces and dips. All of which will most likely accompany the scenes of the masterclass as the apprentices embark on a new and exciting trip with our Culinary Club.

Clever Clogs Club

Date: September 12, 2017

Time: 15.00-17.00

Are you a level 5 apprentice with Umbrella Training?

Join us for our Clever Clogs club to meet other apprentices, share best practice and get help and tips from your peers. Umbrella Team will be on hand to support you and give you advice and guidance too.

Each club will be hosted in central London and will be for approx 2 hours. You will also get the opportunity to visit other hospitality establishments and learn about the wider industry.

Ben Purton, Executive Head Chef at Lancaster London and a Level 5 apprentice said “This club is a great way to support me with my development and learning. It is great to network with other apprentices also in our industry and learn how they are approaching the work. Its also good to catch up with friends from the sector.”

Customer Club – The changing face of the customer

Date: October 9, 2017

Time: 11.30-13.30

Location: Georgian House 35-39 St. George's Drive LONDON SW1V 4DG

Customer Club - For all apprentices who handle customers

A opportunity to meet with Adam Rowledge FIH, General Manager at The Georgian House Hotel who will talk about the changing face of the hospitality customer. the changing needs and demands of the customer, how to anticipate needs and deliver great memories.

Adam has been General Manager of Georgian House since September 2015. Starting his career at Hotel Du Vin in Henley-on-Thames in 2007, Adam then took the position of front of house manager at Hand Picked Hotels’ Nutfield Priory Hotel and Spa before moving to South Lodge Hotel in March 2011. Adam was General Manager at Bannatyne Spa Hotel in Hastings before joining Georgian House.

Outside of the hotel, Adam is a St. Julian Scholar, Guardian Member of industry charity Hospitality Action, Chair of the Sussex Branch of the Institute of Hospitality, member of Institute of Hospitality Supervisory Board, 2012 Acorn Award winner and 2017 British Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame Young Manager of the Year.

Nutrition & Allergen Masterclass

Date: October 24, 2017

Time: 10.00-13.00

Location: London

Join us as leading industry experts HSQC Health, Safety and Quality Control International share their expert knoweldge on food nutrition and give us an update on the latest with allergens. 

This masterclass is aimed at apprentices on Commis Chef, Chef De Partie, Production Chef and Hospitality Team Member standards with Food and Drink service elements.

The class will be conducted by Richard Hannay.

Richard Hannay is a Public Health Consultant and Managing Director of Health, Safety and Quality Control based in London UK. HSQC is an international public health and safety consultancy providing safety and quality support for hospitality management.

He is also Group Manager of the SAFER HOSPITALITY ALLIANCE, a forum for hospitality professionals and leading experts who are committed to excellence in safety and infectious disease control and environmental quality. Richard is a committee member of the London branch of the Institute of Hospitality.

Richard is a qualified Public Health Practitioner and a Nutritionist who has studied and worked extensively in the Middle East, USA and Europe. Richard has advised major blue chip corporations on safety, food security and nutritional quality compliance in the hospitality and commercial sector worldwide.
